(BTW, although I highly recommend the audio podcast regardless, you can easily subscribe to the video version (The Multimedia Ninja YouTube Channel) right HERE.)
So, the first thing is: You don’t even have to subscribe to hear the podcast. You can just go to TheMultimediaNinja.com and listen right there on the site. However, there are some benefits to subscribing to the (free!) podcast.
- You have more control over fast forward, reverse, and jumping to different points in the podcast if you use a dedicated podcast app, like the iTunes Podcast app. Very handy.
- Your podcast app can automatically download new episodes to they’re ready to listen to at your convenience.
- You’ll be doing me a solid! 🙂
How to Subscribe
The easiest way to subscribe is just to click on the “Subscribe” button either to the right of, or at the bottom of, this post!
If you have the Apple Podcast app on your device (like the image at left), it should automatically open up the app to The Multimedia Ninja podcast, and you can subscribe right there. You can also change any settings if you want to. That’s all there is to it! As of now (September 2016), it should also work with iTunes on your desktop, and/or with Android devices with a compatible podcast app installed.
If you have the podcast app:
- Click on the “Subscribe with iTunes” link to the right or below this post. This should open up the Podcast App to The Multimedia Ninja page.
- Click the “Subscribe” button right there in the app.
That’s it! While you’re there, you can also go ahead and download any of the existing episodes (look for the download icon like the one at right).
To make sure your device will download new episodes automatically:
- Click on the “My Podcasts” icon at the bottom.
- Click “Settings”
- Make sure the “Subscribed” button is “on” and that “Download Episodes” is “on.”
If you have a newer iPhone or iPad, you probably already have the Podcast app right there already. If you don’t, open the App Store on your Apple device, do a search for “Podcast,” and download the Podcast app (again, it should look like the icon to the left). Then you can click on the “Subscribe with iTunes” logo here, and it should work just as described above. Easy peasy!
It’s on your desktop, too!
Bear in mind that even if you don’t have an iPhone, iPad, or iPod, there’s a darned good chance you have iTunes on your Mac or PC computer (it’s built into the Mac OS). If that’s the case, here’s how to subscribe on your computer (current for iTunes 11.1):
- Click on the “Subscribe with iTunes” link to the right or below this post. This should open the web page for this podcast.
- Click on the “View in iTunes” button below the red The Multimedia Ninja image.
- iTunes should open and display the subscription page. (If that doesn’t happen, check around the top of your web browser window to see if it’s asking for any permissions.)
- Click “Subscribe.”
To make sure iTunes will download new episodes automatically:
- While you are still on the iTunes subscription page, Click on “Library” near the top right.
- You will probably see a button now new the top left that says “Music.” Click on it and select “Podcasts.”
- Select The Multimedia Ninja podcast.
- Click the “Settings” icon, which looks like a little gear. It should be near the top of the center window.
- Make sure the “Subscribed” button is “on” and that “Download Episodes” is “on.”
What if I don’t have iTunes or an Apple Device? Can I still subscribe?
Oh, heck yes! I definitely recommend using iTunes if possible, but there are certainly other ways to subscribe.
For Android Devices:
I happen to use the (free) app DoggCatcher for listening to podcasts on my HTC One Max phone. (Click HERE to get DoggCatcher for free).
Once you have DoggCatcher, here’s what to do.
To add the podcast in DoggCatcher:
First of all…you may not have to do through any of this! If you have a compatible Android app installed, just try clicking the “Subscribe” button and following the instructions. If that doesn’t work for you, try the below.
Note that you may see slightly different screens if you have a newly installed instance of DoggCatcher. The important thing is to “Subscribe” by “Feed RSS URL” by pasting or typing in the feed link. Here’s how it works on my phone:
1. Tap the little horizontal lines icon on the top left of the app screen.
2. Select “Subscribe” from the drop down menu that appears.
3. Choose “Feed RSS URL.”
4. Paste or type the following into “RSS URL”: (I recommend pasting if you can, to avoid typos.)
http://feeds.feedburner.com/TheMultimediaNinja
5. Be sure to click “OK”…and that’s it!
I still can’t seem to get subscribed
